    Abstract

The smart plug is an economical product which allows the users to have the Internet of Things (IoT) services by just installing it to the home appliances that the users already have. However, it is a wonder if the service provided by the existing smart plugs or those that are still being developed correspond to the users’ needs. Thus, in this research, the service stakeholder map was drawn as one of the service design processes, and the derived core users were investigated to understand the users; with the results, 14 smart plug service concepts were derived to fulfill the users’ needs. The outcomes of this research will provide the basis of the detailed service contents, service scenarios and touch point development in the future and will help suggest the direction of the products and service development under the 4th industrial revolution.
